How you respond to uncertainty is within your power!
Many things can threaten our job security...
Climate change, new technologies, global pandemics, and shifting economies. All of these are impacting the world of work.
But there are some things we can do to ride this wave of uncertainty:
1. Stay Positive
Research shows that fear of losing your job is more harmful to your health than actually losing it. Remind yourself of this if you're feeling low or anxious. Uncertainty is difficult, but how you respond to it is within your power.
2. Show Your Value
Do your utmost to show your boss that you're committed to your organization's success. This might mean making an extra effort to finish a big project on time, putting forward new ideas, or helping out a colleague who's falling behind.
3. Stay Current
Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and challenges affecting your business. And seize any chance to learn. Soft skills like communication, creativity and critical thinking are highly valuable and easily transferable.
4. Market Yourself
If you've done something great, tell people about it! Be your own champion!
5. Keep Your Profile Fresh
Update your résumé and social media profiles frequently. Post relevant and engaging content that will interest your network. Then, you'll be ready to apply for new positions at a moment's notice.
6. Save Your Money
You'll likely be worrying about how you'll pay your bills if you're let go. Aim to save a little each month. That way you won't be forced to take the first job that comes along.
Instead, take the time to rethink your career. Who knows? It may even lead you down a new and exciting path.
